Oct. 23, 2002

Final Stats

New York, N.Y. - Columbia's Jane Vongvorachoti scored in the 102nd minute to give the Lions a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Stony Brook at Columbia Soccer Stadium. The goal was the first of Vongvorachoti's collegiate career.

Classmate Giovanna Kiani booted a corner kick which landed just past the near post and bounced across the Seawolves' goal mouth, where Vongvorachoti waited and knocked in the game's lone goal at 101:07. It was the first goal Stony Brook had allowed in over 390 minutes of play, spanning five matches.

Cindy Bennett had kept Stony Brook in the match with several acrobatic saves, including one on a shot by Kiani in the first overtime session. She had seven saves in the contest.

Stony Brook's best chance to score came in the closing seconds of regulation when a corner kick resulted in a flurry around the Lions' net. Sophomore goalkeeper Erissa Aronson made a save on a shot by Brittany Norwood as time expired to force overtime.

The loss dropped Stony Brook to 4-9-3. The Seawolves remain in third place in the America East standings and will resume conference play on Sunday when they host Maine at 1 p.m.
