Men's Soccer Takes On Albany

The Matchup: Stony Brook (2-12-1, 1-4 America East) continues its road swing this weekend when the Seawolves take on the Albany Great Danes (7-5-2, 2-1-2). The Seawolves dropped a 3-1 decision to Binghamton on Wednesday.

Albany fell 1-0 to Vermont in overtime on Wednesday. The Great Danes are winless in their last three outings, but have tied in two of those contests.

Series History: Albany leads the all-time series 15-8-2 and won last year's meeting by a score of 6-0. Stony Brook's last win over the Great Danes came in 1999 with a 2-1 overtime victory.

Scouting the Great Danes: Albany's Greg Chevalier and Ashtian Holmes lead the Great Dane offense. Chevalier, a senior defender, has scored a team-high six goals. Holmes has served as an effective playmaker with seven assists to go along with three goals. Senior defender Steven Procknal has also chipped in with three goals on the year.

Sophomore Bouna Coundol and senior Trevor Serraro have both played a substantial number of minutes in the goal. Coundol has started five games, logging over 817 minutes. He has allowed 13 goals (1.43 GAA) and has 58 saves to his credit en route to a 3-3-2 record and two shutouts.

Serraro has started six contests and has a 1.79 GAA in over 503 minutes. He is credited with four of Albany's seven victories.

Last Time Out: The Seawolves relinquished a 1-0 lead against Binghamton on Wednesday as the Bearcats scored three second-half goals to earn a 3-1 win.

Stony Brook struck first when freshman Chris Scarpati collected a rebound and passed it to sophomore Chris Musinski, whose goal gave SBU the 1-0 edge in the 20th minute. But the Bearcats rallied, scoring three goals in a nine-minute span in the second half.

Keith Augeri got Binghamton going when he beat Stony Brook keeper Dan Ferrin to score the equalizer at the 61:27 mark. Less thena a minute later, Graham Munro converted a penalty kick for a 2-1 lead at 62:20. Munro added another penalty kick in the 71st minute for the final score.

Stony Brook kept the Bearcats off the scoreboard for the first 61 minutes despite being outshot 20-9 for the game.

Common Opponents: Stony Brook and Albany both faced Marist and San Diego in non-conference action this season.

Both teams defeated Marist, with SBU earning a 2-0 victory and Albany a 7-1 win. San Diego, however, came out on top in both matchups, beating Albany 4-1 and the Seawolves 5-0.

News and Notes: Stony Brook returns home for a Nov. 2 date with New Hampshire and Nov. 5 match with Boston University.
