The Matchup:
Stony Brook (1-9-1) takes on its final non-conference opponent this season when the Seawolves travel to Rider (2-4-1). Stony Brook comes off a 2-1 loss at Hartford while the Broncs fell to Towson 4-1 in their last outing.
Series History:
The two teams met for the first time last year in a 1-1 tie at University Field.
In that game, the Seawolves took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when Everett Watts' cross bounced off the head of a Bronc defender and into the net past Rider keeper Brian Gill. Stony Brook clung to the lead until the 75th minute when a Jake Trainor goal evened the game at 1-1.
Both teams had excellent chances for the gamewinner in both overtime periods, but Stony Brook goalkeeper Dan Ferrin and Gill each made outstanding saves to preserve the tie.
Last Time Out:
The Seawolves battled Hartford in a hard-fought game on Saturday, but the Hawks came away with a 2-1 victory in their America East Conference opener.
After Stony Brook knotted the game at 1-1, it took less than three minutes for the Hawks to score the gamewinner. In the 72nd minute, senior Asaf Lubezky converted a rebound that resulted from a free kick by fellow senior Guy Primor to give Hartford the 2-1 advantage.
The Hawks took a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the game on a goal by Alon Lubezky.
The Seawolves finally countered at the 69:44 mark with junior Anthony Barberio's second goal of the season. However, the tie was short-lived, as Asaf Lubezky netted the gamewinner just 2:23 later.
