Final Stats
Stockton, CA -- -
Pacific (15-9) got out to the lead in both games and held on for a two-game sweep of the Seawolves (7-6) Monday at Tigers Field. Pacific won 7-6 in game one and 2-1 in game two.
The Tigers got a two-run homerun from Tim Gilhooly off Seawolves starter Will Brumfield (0-1) to take a 2-0 lead after one.
The score remained that way until the fifth inning when Ed Kull hit his first homerun of the season.
However, Pacific exploded for five runs in the sixth inning, chasing Brumfield from the game. Brumfield had a solid outing, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out a pair in his first start. Gilhooly and Joel Summers each had RBI to key a rally that gave the Tigers a 7-1 advantage.
Stony Brook answered in the seventh with five runs of its own - keyed by RJ Etzel's three-run triple. Down 7-5, Stony Brook had runners at the corners with one out. Rich Graham brought home Etzel with a scarifice fly but Tigers reliever Brandon Maloney got the last two outs in relief to preserve the win.
Etzel finished 1-for-3 with three RBI and Kull had an RBI and two runs scored.
Pacific jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game two off starter Anthony Stutz (1-1), collecting four hits in the first inning. Stutz did not allow another hit until the sixth inning but Stony Brook could not get the offense going against Maloney or Joe Lazano. The Seawolves only run of the game came in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Ed Kull. The Seawolves loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning, but could not get a run across. S
It was Stutz' most productive outing of the year as he went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He walked four and struck out four.
The Seawolves battle San Francisco in a nine-inning game Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. (EST).
