Jonathan Lewis (3-1) pitched six strong innings and Andrew Larsen collected four hits and two RBI as Stony Brook beat the University of San Francisco, 7-4, Tuesday afternoon at Dons Field. The Seawolves improved to 8-6 while the Dons fell to 7-19.
Stony Brook built a 3-0 lead, getting a pair of RBI from Lee Lipschutz.
Rob Sittauer trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the fourth with an RBI single. But Lewis got Luke Gradishar to strike out and the Dons left the bases loaded.
Stony Brook exploded for three more in the fifth, getting an RBI single from Larsen and a sacrifice fly from Dwayne Whitaker to make it 6-1. LArsen scored Rich Graham from third with his fourth hit of the game in the seventh innikng to make it 7-1.
Lewis left after six innings, allowing just one run on seven hits. He struck out 10 and walked three.
The Dons got three runs off reliever Ray Zimmerman in the eighth with a pair of homeruns to right field.
Nick Abel came in to get the save in the ninth, allowing two hits to start the inning, but settled down to get the next three batters.
Stony Brook improved to 2-3 on its six-game trip to California and will finish the trip Wednesday with another single game against San Francisco at 4:00 p.m. (EST).
