Swimming And Diving Captains Named For 2002-03 Season

June 20, 2002

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Dave Alexander, head coach of swimming and diving at Stony Brook, announced team captains for the upcoming 2002-03 season.

Junior Dan Berzansky and senior Yohann Littee will lead a men's team that was 7-4 in dual meets last season and finished third at the America East Championships. A transfer last season, Berzansky made an immediate impact, swimming on the Seawolves' 200 free relay team that won the title at the America East Championships. Littee, a three-year letterwinner, is one of Stony Brook's best returning backstrokers.

On the women's side, senior four-year letterwinners Sarah Doret, Kristi Schubert and Kris Yturraspe return as team captains for the second consecutive year. Doret has been outstanding in several events throughout her career, most notably distance freestyle. She is a member of the school-record holding 400 free relay and 800 free relay teams. Schubert returns for her final season after a stellar junior campaign on both the one- and three-meter diving boards. She became the program's first Division I qualifier when she advanced to the NCAA Regional competition in March. Yturraspe has been a consistent breaststroker and outstanding leader for the Seawolves throughout her career.

The Seawolves, who lose just three seniors from last year, welcome an incoming class of 24 as Stony Brook heads into its second season of competition in the America East Conference.
