Martha Barrett Selected To America East Scholar-Athlete Squad

July 25, 2002

Stony Brook, N.Y. - University of Hartford junior Pedja Zdravkovic and Northeastern University senior Anders Hoyem have been chosen America East Scholar-Athletes in the sports of men's tennis and men's soccer, respectively. The two are the only repeat selections among the conference's 21 individual sports winners. Zdravkovic was also a scholar-athlete choice last season while Hoyem earned that honor in 1999-2000.

A committee of athletics administrators and NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives chose the honorees from the nearly 3,000 student-athletes who competed at America East institutions last year. Each honoree was a starter or prominent reserve on his or her team and has a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.20. First-year students, including transfer students, are not eligible for these honors.

Stony Brook senior Martha Barrett, the team Most Valuable Player for the Stony Brook University women's tennis team, was selected in that sport and was the only Seawolves representative on the scholar-athlete team.

America East will select a Men's and Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year from this list of finalists later this summer.

Member institutions of America East Conference for the 2001-02 academic year included Albany, Binghamton, Boston University, Hartford, Maine, New Hampshire, Northeastern, Stony Brook, and Vermont.
