Final Stats

Tampa, Fla. - Stetson University won its first game of the year as the Hatters defeated Stony Brook, 2-1, at the University of South Florida Classic on Friday night.

Stetson (1-4) wasted no time getting on the board, as junior Steve Luppert's header just five minutes into the game gave the Hatters the early advantage. However, Stony Brook quickly bounced back, tying the game five minutes later. Junior transfer Anthony Barberio scored the first goal of his Seawolves career with the equalizer off an assist from sophomore Akil Jordan, and the score remained 1-1 at halftime.

The game remained tied for much of the second half before the Hatters were able to tally the gamewinner. In the 74th minute, freshman Alex Minton collected a deflection off a Stony Brook defender and sent it into the net for the gamewinner.

Stony Brook netminder Dan Ferrin had five saves in the loss.

With the setback, the Seawolves fall to 0-4 on the year, marking the first time Stony Brook has gone winless in its first four games since the 1999 season.

The Seawolves take on tournament host South Florida on Sunday at 2 p.m.
