Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Jen Fontanetta (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored in the 68th minute to help the Seawolves earn a 1-1 tie in America East women's soccer action Sunday afternoon. With the tie, each team gains a point in the conference standings.
Despite outshooting the Huskies 12-4 in the first half, it was NU's Jennifer North who put Northeastern ahead 1-0 at the 40:27 mark. North ran down a through pass from Liz Dyjak and slipped a left-footed shot past Stony Brook's Lauren Kohn for the first goal of the game.
The Seawolves continued their assault on the NU goal and found the net at 67:31. Danielle Lewis sent a cross from the far corner into the goal mouth that Fontanetta headed past Cynthia Slowik to knot the game at one. Fontanetta had a chance to win it in regulation on a breakaway but Slowik came up with a big save to preserve the tie.
Slowik made nine saves for the Huskies (4-2-3, 0-0-1) to extend their unbeaten streak to five. Lauren Kohn made five saves for the Seawolves (2-6-2, 0-0-1).
