Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Emily Knight's goal in the 75th minute lifted Cornell to a 1-0 victory over Stony Brook in Division I women's soccer action at University Field Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped Stony Brook's record to 0-3 while the season-opening win for the Big Red improved their mark to 1-0.

In a tightly contested match, it was Knight who provided the game-winning goal with just under 15 minutes remaining. Midway through the second half, Seawolves goalie Cindy Bennett came out of her net 20 yards to stop a potential Cornell breakaway. Bennett failed to clear the ball and after a collision with a Big Red player, it was CU's Shannon Fraser who pounced on the loose ball and passed it to Knight who was all alone at the top of the penalty box. Knight deposited the ball into the empty net to give Cornell the win.

Katie Thomas made five saves to earn the shutout win for Cornell.

Stony Brook is back in action on Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Hofstra. Kick-off is 4:00 p.m.
