Maine Slips by Men's Soccer 1-0

Orono, Maine - The Maine men's soccer team slipped past Stony Brook 1-0 in Orono, Maine on Saturday afternoon. Eric Peterson scored the only goal of the game in the first half, which ended up being the game-winner. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 2-9-1 on the season and 0-3-0 in America East play, while the Black Bears moved to 5-6-1 and 1-2-0.

In the first half, Stony Brook goalkeeper Dan Ferrin blocked a shot by Maine's Gabriel Germano. The ball came back out to Germano, who then passed it to Peterson, who fired the shot home to give the Black Bears the 1-0 lead at the 12:37 mark. The rest of the first half was all Maine, as the Black Bears took 12 shots to Stony Brook's one, which came with 2:13 left in the half.

The second half was a battle as Maine took eight shots to Stony Brook's five, however neither team was able to score in the half. Maine goalie Chad Mongeon made three saves and recorded his second shutout of the season, while Ferrin turned away six shots in the loss.

The Seawolves return to action when they travel to Baltimore, Md., to take on UMBC on Wednesday, October 15 at 3 p.m.
