Amber Albrecht headed home a corner kick off the foot of Elyse Bizzozzaro in the 71st minute to lift Hofstra to a 1-0 win over Stony Brook Tuesday night. The Seawolves fell to 5-7-1 while the Pride improved to 10-1-2 to run its unbeaten streak to eight games.
Both teams traded good chances in the first half with the best chance coming when SBU's Kirsandra Seaton redirected a Kendra Graber cross that went just over the crossbar and the game remained 0-0.
Early in the second half, Danielle Lewis broke in alone on goal but Hofstra keeper Rebecca Wachsberger came out to stop Lewis for one of her four saves on the night.
The lone goal of the game following a mad scramble in front of the SBU goal that resulted in a Pride corner kick. Bizzozzaro served the ball into the goal mouth where Albrecht headed it in for the gamewinner.
Stony Brook continued to push at the Hofstra goal and just missed the equalizer when Joy Gueverra went in on a partial breakaway but her left-footed shot just missed the far corner of the net. Later in the half, Katelyn Martin blasted a shot past Wachsberger that was going toward an empty net but defender Jacki Pollaro stopped the shot at the goal line and kicked it out of trouble to preserve the 1-0 lead.
Cindy Bennett made six stops in goal for the Seawolves who return to action on Thursday night when they host conference foe Hartford. Kick-off is 7 p.m.
