Marissa Servello and Stephanie McCarthy Named NFCA Scholar-Athletes

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Marissa Servello and Stephanie McCarthy earned scholar-athlete honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the 2002-03 academic year. To qualify for this honor, the student-athlete must have a acquired a 3.5 grade point average for the year.

Servello, a sophomore infielder from Randolph, N.J., started each of the Seawolves' 58 games last season, hitting .216 with 35 hits, 15 RBIs and 10 runs. Last season, she posted a 3.67 GPA in athletic training and earned a spot on the Dean's List.

McCarthy, a junior catcher from Port Jervis, N.Y., started all 58 contests last season, hitting .188 with 28 hits, 16 runs, eight RBIs and four home runs, while finishing second on the team with 22 walks. McCarthy was named to the Dean's List after posting a 3.67 GPA in studio art last semester.
