Baseball Inks Pitcher to National Letter of Intent

Dec. 5, 2003

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University baseball team has signed Tom Koehler to a National Letter of Intent during the November signing period, as head coach Matt Senk announced Friday. The hard-throwing, right handed pitcher will join the Seawolves in the fall of 2004.

"We are very pleased with this signing," Senk said. "Tom loves to compete and brings an aggressive, go right at you attitude to the mound."

Koehler, a 6-3, 220 pound righty from New Rochelle, is a two-time all-league selection at New Rochelle High School. He has compiled a 10-3 record in two varsity seasons for the Hugenots, posting five shutouts and two no-hitters to go along with a 2.40 ERA.

This summer he played for the Long Island Cardinals traveling team that took a trip to the USABS World Series held in San Diego. Koehler allowed just two-hits in 6.1 innings pitched versus the Los Angeles Orioles to earn the victory in his only start of the tournament.

"He'll see innings right away," said Senk. "How quickly he becomes a conference starter will depend not only on his physical ability, but how fast he matures as a pitcher."

Koehler will be reunited with ex-high school teammate Chris Dibiaso, who currently plays shortstop at Rockham Community College and will join the Seawolves next season.
