The Stony Brook men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the second day
of competition at the America East conference championships Saturday. The men are currently in third place behind Binghamton and Boston University. The women are currently in sixth.
Matt Hanson and Nathan French continue to roll against America East competition. Hanson took the top spot in the 100 butterfly with a time of 23.44. French missed duplicating Hanson's accomplishments by just missing first place by less than .20 seconds. His time of 53.47 put him in second in the 100 backstroke. The relay team of French, Kirill Alekseyev, Hanson and James Payne were third in the 200 medley relay with their time of 1:36.78.
In other action, Kyle Thorton took fifth in the championship final of the 400 IM with a 4:19.06 and Ted Freeborn also had a fifth-place finish in the 200 free with his 1:45.29. Alekseyev was sixth in the 100 breast with his time of 1:02.08. Jessica Claud grabbed sixth with her 1:08.96 in the 100 breast and Kim Harris also finished sixth in the 100 backstroke. She posted a time of 1:00.34.
Sunday features the final day of competition in the conference championships. Sunday's trials begin at 11 a.m. in the 200-yard Backstroke, 100-yard Freestyle, 200-yard Breaststroke, 200-yard Butterfly, 1650-yard Freestyle, and men's Three-Meter Diving. Championships begin at 5:30 p.m. in those events and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay.
