Women's Tennis Tops Albany, 5-2

Albany, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's tennis team earned its first dual match victory of the season with a 5-2 victory over America East rival Albany on Friday.

The Seawolves opened the match by winning all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Patricia Gomez and Karen Hansen teamed at No. 1 to earn an 8-3 victory, while the duo of Anne Cathrine Valle and Carmie Zink recorded an 8-4 win at No. 2. The No. 3 team of Georgia Bushell and Claire Shean won 8-2.

In singles play, Valle went three sets at the No. 1 spot before winning, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. Stony Brook captured No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6 all in straight sets. Gomez won 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2, Hansen earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 and Zink recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 6.

Stony Brook (1-1, 1-0 America East) returns to action on March 8 when the Seawolves take on Connecticut in Hamilton, N.Y.
