March 22, 2003

Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Ian Dingman scored four goals and added two assists to propel No. 12 Navy to a 10-6 win over Stony Brook Saturday before 856 fans at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The loss snapped a two-game skid for Navy (4-2) and dropped Stony Brook to 2-4.

Sean Farrell struck early for Stony Brook, converting a feed from Jason Cappadoro at the 14:04 mark of the first quarter to give the host team a 1-0 advantage. Navy then reeled of six straight tallies over the next 29 minutes, three of them coming off the stick of Dingman, before Cappadoro scored with five seconds remaining in the half to send trim Navy's lead to 6-2 at the break.

Cappadoro's second goal of the game drew SB with 6-3 at the 12:30 mark of the third before the Middies responded with tallies from Ben Bailey and Dingman to once again extend the lead to five.

Stony Brook tried to rally again midway through the third quarter. George LaFlare notched his seventh goal of the season at 7:11 and freshman Adam Marksberry found the net only 1:34 later and the Seawolves were within 8-5.

The Middies thwarted the Stony Brook rally with goals from Ben Horn and Dan Griffin to put the game out of reach. Stony Brook's Kevin Shea closed out the scoring at 2:28 of the fourth quarter.

Navy won the game on the ground, outdueling SB for ground balls 51-26 and winning 16 of 21 face-offs. Seth Dinola made four saves in goal for Navy to earn the win.

Cappadoro finished with a pair of goals and assist for Stony Brook and Jeff Slater made 11 stops in the loss.

The game also marked a celebration of Stony Brook's 2002 America East championship season. At halftime, each member of last year's team received a championship ring and looked on as the 2002 championship banner was unveiled in LaValle Stadium.

Stony Brook is back in action next Thursday night when it hosts Air Force. Face-off is 7 p.m.
