BLUEFIELD, W.Va. - The Stony Brook Seawolves baseball team scored a split against the West Virginia Mountaineers Sunday as they took the night cap by a score of 11-9, but fell in the day's opener by just one run. The Mountaineers battled back to take that game by a score of 3-2. Stony Brook improves to 1-2 on the year while West Virginia is now 5-5 overall. The win pulls head coach Matt Senk to just four short of the 300 career-win mark as he is now 296-159-3.

Stony Brook scored a pair of three-run home runs by Mike Russo and Matt Devins to defeat the Mountaineers in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader at Bowen Stadium in Bluefield, W.Va. The Stony Brook batters combined to pounded out 15 hits against seven West Virginia pitchers. The 11 run awakening came after the Seawolves only scored four runs combined in the two previous games. Russo and Devins combined to drive in nine of Stony Brook's 11 runs.

Earlier in the day the Seawolves were undone mainly by West Virginia's Tim McCabe who went three for four with a home run and two RBI. West Virginia collected eight hits for the game. The Seawolves jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first, but eventually the Mountaineers were able to chip away at The Brook's two-run advantage.

The Mountaineers to the three-game series, 1-2.

Stony Brook returns to the diamond Wednesday to battle local rival Hofstra. The Seawolves visit the Flying Dutchmen who are 0-6 on the season. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
