The Stony Brook (3-6) men's lacrosse team will face the No. 18 Villanova Wildcats in a non-conference matchup Sunday afternoon at Villanova Stadium. The young Seawolves head into Sunday's matchup hoping to end a two-game slide before entering next week's conference matchup against Albany. Face-off is 1 p.m.
Series Notes: Villanova holds a 2-1 series edge. The Seawolves earned a 10-9 decision at home last season. Denis Scannell's goal with 1:11 left in regulations provided the margin of victory. Two of the three games have been decided by one goal.
Last Time In Philly: SBU's last visit to Villanova resulted in a 9-8 overtime victory. Chris Kollmer's goal in the extra stanza lifted the Seawolves to a 9-3 record.
Last Time Out: Stony Brook lost its second straight contest with a 12-6 setback at Delaware on Wednesday night. Adam Marksberry scored three times while Kevin Shea and Sean Farrell each had a goal and an assist in the loss. Jeff Slater made 14 saves.
Marksberry Heating Up: Freshman Adam Marksberry ran his point-scoring streak to five games after recording his first career hat trick Wednesday night. Marksberry has racked up 10 points in the last five games and has scored six goals in his last three outings.
News And Notes: The Seawolves won only 7 of 22 face-offs against Delaware . . . the Seawolves are 1-1 at night this season . . . after Villanova, the Seawolves have only one non-conference game remaining -- versus North Carolina on the 23rd.
Versus Ranked Opponents: Villanova will be the fourth Top 20 team that Stony Brook has faced this season. Since joining the Division I level, the Seawolves are 2-39 against opponents ranked in the Top 20. Fifteen of those 41 matchups were against teams ranked in the Top 10, seven in the Top 5. The highest ranked opponent that SB has ever faced was the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels on April 21, 1991 -- the highest at home was No. 2 Virginia on March 18, 2000. The Seawolves are 1-22 at home against ranked teams, the only win coming against No. 16 UMBC in 2001. The lone road win came against Hartford in 1997.
