The Stony Brook Seawolves dropped two games Sunday to the Maine Black Bears by the scores of 4-1 and 2-0. The Seawolves experienced a frustrating day at the plate, only charting five hits combined in the two games. The Seawolves are now 26-19 overall and 11-9 in America East action and Maine 35-14 overall and 15-5 in conference play.
The Black Bears scored first in game one when Joe Drapeau brought Simon Williams home in the first to give Maine an early advantage. The Black Bears would push the lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth when Mike Ferriggi reached on an error and later scored on a Mike Livulpi single. Livulpi would then score on a Aaron Izaryk double and he would cross thanks to a Bret Ouellette knock. The Seawolves would get one back in the bottom of the fifth when Andrew Larsen came around to score thanks to a Jim McCurdy bloop to right, but the rally would end there for the final of 4-1.
Game two was an even tighter pitching duel with Stony Brook's Matt Restivo and Maine's Ryan Harris squaring off. The only offense of the game came in the later innings with Maine taking a 1-0 advantage in the top of the fourth thanks to a Joe Hough single that scored Joe Drapeau who doubled earlier. The Black Bears would add another in the sixth when Ouellette homered to left.
Restivo went the distance for the Seawolves but did receive the loss. He allowed just two runs on six hits and struck out five. Ryan Harris pitched six innings of one hit ball for Maine, striking out seven and allowing no runs. David Wood also pitched a complete game for Stony Brook in game one, giving up four runs on eight hits and striking out five. Mike Macdonald also pitched seven, striking out nine and allowing just one run on four hits for the win.
The Seawolves are back in action Friday as they travel to Hartford to close out their 2003 regular season with a four-game series with the Hawks. The first pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
