For the second straight season, Stony Brook sophomores Stephanie DiBiase and Kristen Brust have been named to the All-America East First Team, the conference announced on Wednesday at the America East Tournament banquet.
DiBiase, who was named Player of the Week twice during the season, leads
the league in several categories: batting average (.407), hits (81), runs
scored (47), doubles (13) and total bases (126). She has already made her
mark in the Seawolves record books with both single season and career
marks. A starter in all 56 games this season, she has a slugging percentage
of .633 and has swiped 19-of-24 bases.
Brust is also among the league leaders in several categories. She is fourth
in batting average (.353), second in hits (60), second in runs scored (38),
and second in total bases (112). Her 37 RBI lead the league, while her 13
doubles give her a share of the top spot along with DiBiase. She has also
cranked 13 home runs on the year, which leads the league and set a new
Stony Brook single season record. She is also the Stony Brook record holder
with 17 dingers.
Freshmen Angela Andrews and Hayley Durham were also recognized by receiving All-Rookie Team honors. Andrews is second in the conference in wins with 17 and has pitched 243.2 innings, recording an ERA of 2.88. Her 129 strikeouts on the season is third-best in the program's history.
Durham has started all 56 games at third base and is batting .306 on the year with 53 hits. She also has 12 doubles, four home runs and 22 RBI to her credit.
Stony Brook, which concluded the regular season with a 25-31 record overall
and 12-10 in the America East, makes its first appearance in the conference
tournament tomorrow. The fourth-seeded Seawolves take on No. 1 seed and
defending champion Boston University at 2:30 p.m. at University Field on
the Stony Brook campus.
