Three Softball Players Named NFCA Scholar-Athletes

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's Kristen Brust, Marissa Servello and Rachael Vogl earned scholar-athlete honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athletes for the 2003-04 academic year, the NFCA announced. To qualify for the honor, the student-athlete must have acquired a 3.5 grade point average for the year.

Brust, a three-time America East first team pick and a two-time All-Northeast Region selection at first base, ranked among the top 30 in the nation in batting, doubles and home runs, while leading America East in hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, total bases and slugging in 2004. Last season, she posted a 3.72 GPA in social sciences and history and was named to the Verizon Academic All-District I first team, the Dean's List, and the America East Academic Honor Roll.

Servello, a rising senior infielder/outfielder, batted .222 with 39 hits, 18 runs and 13 RBI in 2004, while finishing the season fifth on the team in doubles, total bases, hits, RBI and stolen bases. Last season, she posted a 3.91 GPA in athletic training and was named to the Dean's List and the America East Academic Honor Roll.

Vogl, a rising sophomore catcher/outfielder, started 62 of 63 contests in 2004, tallying 30 hits, 28 runs and seven RBI while finishing tied for first on the team in triples, second in walks, third in stolen bases and fourth in runs scored. Last season, she posted a 3.55 GPA in biology and was named to the Dean's List and the America East Academic Honor Roll.
