Florida International Hands Softball 9-0 Defeat

Miami, Fla. - Jacque Vetters homered and drove in two runs to help host Florida International to a 9-0 win over Stony Brook at the Golden Panther Softball Invitational on Friday. The Golden Panthers scored nine runs over the first two innings and Kendra Laminack scattered two hits while striking out seven to earn the win.

After a three-run first inning, FIU broke the game open in the second inning. Following a leadoff single, Vetters drilled a two-run homer to right field to extend the lead to 5-0. Three hits and a walk plated another run before Brittany Witherow doubled to drive home two more runs for an 8-0 lead. FIU tacked on another run on a ground out by Tabitha Embry.

Sarah Hoffman (0-1) took the loss for SB. Christina Voth came on in relief and pitched 2 2/3 innings, yielding only a hit while striking out two. Kristen Brust and Jamie Neuner each had a hit for Stony Brook.

The Seawolves (0-2) are back in action on Saturday against Maryland. First pitch is 11 a.m.
