Softball Falls to Michigan State 9-0 in Season Opener

Miama, Fla. - The Stony Brook softball team opened the 2004 season with a 9-0 loss to Michigan State at the Golden Panther Invitational Friday afternoon.

MSU took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Natalie Furrow before taking control with a five run second. Brittney Green and Furrow each smacked RBI singles and Dayna Feenstra added a three-run triple to give the Spartans a 6-0 lead. MSU tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third to make it 8-0.

Rachael Vogl, Kristen Brust, Stephanie McCarthy and Colleen McCarthy each went 1-for-2 for the Seawolves (0-1). Angela Andrews (0-1) took the loss after allowing nine runs, six earned, on 11 hits while walking three in four innings of work.

Furrow and Elizabeth Petersn each drove in two runs for the Spartans (4-3), while Green added three runs and an RBI.

The Seawolves are back in action this afternoon when they take on host Florida International at 4:00 p.m.
