Box Score

Lafayette, La. - A six-run fourth inning by Louisiana-Lafayette was too much for the Stony Brook baseball team to overcome, as they were defeated 7-3 on Saturday afternoon in Lafayette, La. The Seawolves dropped to 1-4 on the season, while the Ragin Cajuns, who came back from a 3-0 deficit, improved to 4-2 this year.

Stony jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning on the strength of a two-run triple by Dave Mischo that scored Nick Theoharis and Isidro Fortuna. Mischo scored the third run of the inning on an RBI groundout by freshman Chris Sipp, his first run batted in as a Seawolf.

Louisiana-Lafayette stormed back in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring six runs to take a lead they would not relinquish. The Cajuns loaded the bases with no outs and a throwing error by third baseman Justin Michalek allowed the first two runs of the inning to score. A two-run double by Ryan Core, an RBI single by Justin Merendino and a sacrfice fly by Josh Landry ended the scoring and put Lafayette up 6-3 at the end of four innings. A solo home run by Dallas Morris in bottom of the sixth ended the scoring.

Mischo was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored, while Matt Devins went 2-for-4 for the Seawolves. Merendino was 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Ragin Cajuns.
