The Stony Brook softball team earned a split on Friday afternooon at the ECU Clash held in Greenville, N.C. The team dropped its first game of the tournament 6-2 to James Madison, but rallied with a 7-1 victory over Ohio University to improve to 2-5 on the season.
The Seawolves tied the first game at one apiece in the bottom of the first inning when Kristen Brust scored from third base on a JMU passed ball, but that was all SB could manage as the Dukes took control with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning, a run in the fourth and two in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Laura Bradford led the Seawolves at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the loss.
Game 2 provided better results for Stony Brook as the Seawolves pounded out 10 hits en route to a 7-1 victory over Ohio. The team jumped on top in the first inning on an RBI double by Brust that scored Rachael Vogl. Two Ohio errors allowed two more runs to cross the plate in the inning and Brust added an 2-run home run in the second inning and an RBI double in the fifth as part of a 3-for-3, four RBI game. Hayley Durham added an RBI single in the fifth inning to close out the scoring for the Seawolves. She finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate.
Sarah Hoffman picked up the win, allowing eight hits, while striking out three batters in the victory.
The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow at Day 2 of the ECU Clash when they take on Rider at 10 a.m. and host East Carolina at noon.
