Orono, Maine - Junior Matt Devins and freshman Chris Sipp were named to
America East all-conference teams on Wednesday evening at the conference
baseball banquet. Devins earned second-team all-conference honors at
shortstop for the third straight season while Sipp was recognized for an
excellent freshman campaign with all-rookie team accolades.
Devins took home second-team recognition of the third straight season after
hitting a career-high .374, ranking third in the America East Conference.
After missing a month of the season with a hand injury he incurred on a
head first slide into home plate, Devins returned to spark the SB offense
with team-high batting average as well as a team-best .433 on-base
percentage, good for fifth in the league.
Sipp stepped into the starting lineup this season and was a tough out all
season long for opposing pitchers, ranking third in the conference with 25
walks while hitting .237 during the regular season. The smooth-fielding
Wantagh, N.Y., native earned America East Rookie of the Week for the week
of April 19-25, after hitting .571 (8-for-14) in five games, including two
crucial wins over Northeastern.
Albany's Dan Schoonmaker topped the list of six first-team Great Danes as
he was named the Len Harlow Player of the Year Award, while Northeastern's
Jordan Thomson was awarded the pitcher of the year in the conference.
Vermont's Miguel Magrass earned rookie of the year and Albany's Jon Mueller
was named coach of the year after leading the Great Danes to a 36-12 mark,
14-7 in the America East.
