Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association recognized Stony Brook freshman goalie Brendan Callahan as an honorable mention All-American on Monday. Callahan put together a spectacular rookie season in leading the nation in both save percentage and goals against average. He becomes the second SB laxer to earn honorable mention recognition in the program's 15-year Division I history.
Callahan posted a 9-3 record in 2004 and led the nation with a stellar 5.96 goals against average and lofty .687 save percentage. Callahan outdistanced first-team All-American Matt Russell of Navy who recorded a 6.20 goals against average.
Callahan became the first goalie to lead the country in save percentage and goals against average since Trevor Tierney of Princeton did so back in 2001. He is also the second SB player to capture the individual save percentage crown. Greg Taylor posted a nation-best .671 mark in 1998.
Stony Brook's all-time leading goal scorer, Kevin Pall, was the first Seawolf to earn honorable mention All-America honors following the 2002 season.
