Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Vince Sinagra was named defensive coordinator at Stony Brook, head coach Sam Kornhauser announced on Monday. Sinagra brings a wealth of experience to the Seawolves, including a combined 12 years at Holy Cross, Hofstra and Fordham.
"We are excited to add Vince Sinagra to our football family," said Kornhauser. "He brings a tremendous amount of experience, having coached in the Patriot League and the Atlantic 10. He is an excellent addition to our staff."
Sinagra arrives at Stony Brook after spending five seasons at Holy Cross where he was the linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. In that role, Sinagra was responsible for game and practice planning, as well as recruiting in Southern California, Southern and Central Florida, New York City and Long Island.
Before his time at Holy Cross, Sinagra completed his second stint at Hofstra, serving as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach during the 1998 season. Sinagra had previously coached the Pride wide receivers during the 1993 campaign.
From 1994 to 1998, Sinagra was the defensive coordinator and linebacker coach at Patriot League member Fordham. While with the Rams, he was responsible for supervising assistant coaches and graduate assistants, recruiting and travel planning, as well as assisting with day-to-day football operations.
Sinagra also spent six seasons as the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Bloomsburg University. While at Bloomsburg, he assisted with recruiting and was as an academic advisor for the football team, while also serving as the director of summer football camp.
Sinagra earned his bachelor's degree in physical education and health from the University of Rhode Island in 1975 before completing his master's in physical education, health and recreation from the school in 1983. As an undergraduate at URI, Sinagra was a three-year starter at defensive tackle for the Rams. He then had stints with the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League and the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.
His first collegiate coaching job was at his alma mater, where he oversaw the defensive line from 1976-77. Sinagra went on to spend nine seasons at Milford Academy in Connecticut, serving as defensive coordinator three seasons and head coach and athletic director for his final six.
