Isidro Fortuna Named to NECBL All-Star Team

July 19, 2004

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Isidro Fortuna, who will be entering his junior year at Stony Brook in the fall, was named to the New England Collegiate Baseball League's All-Star Game to be played July 25 in Montpelier, Vermont. Fortuna will start in the outfield for the Southern Division as it takes on the Northern Division.

Fortuna leads his team, the Holyoke Giants, in home runs (3), RBI (15), hits (31) and slugging percentage (.490) while hitting at a .298 clip this season, good for second on the team. A starter in the outfield as a sophomore this year at Stony Brook, Fortuna was instrumental in the Seawolves run to their first America East Championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament.

The NECBL is the largest wooden bat summer league in the United States with 13 teams, and is led by former MLB Commissioner Fay Vincent. In the League's ten-year history, 40% of its players have gone on to play professional baseball.
