The Stony Brook men's basketball team hosts defending America East champ Vermont on Wednesday night at the Indoor Sports Complex. Stony Brook is aiming for its first-ever win over Vermont. The Catamounts are led by the nation's leading scorer Taylor Coppenrath. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
Radio: Game will be carried live on WUSB 90.1 FM and on the internet at www.goseawolves.org.
Last Time Out: Stony Brook rallied from a 38-34 halftime deficit behind 10 second-half points from Jairus McCollum to post a 73-64 win over New Hampshire. Antwan Hardy scored 15 points to lead all scorers. The Seawolves connected on 10 three-pointers, the first time that has happened in two years.
Versus Vermont: The Seawolves have yet to defeat Vermont since joining the America East Conference. The Catamounts hold a 7-0 series edge, sweeping the season series in each of the last three years. UVM also earned a tournament victory in 2002.
No. 1 Takes Over Team Lead: Antwan Hardy has asserted himself as the team's leading scorer over the last three weeks. He has scored in double figures in eight straight games and has led the team in scoring in each of the last five games. He is now averaging a team-best 12.8 points per game and has been even better in conference play, scoring at a 16.2 ppg. clip.
The Rookie: Hardy was named America East Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday, the second straight week he has earned the award and fourth time overall. His 12.8 points per game average, 16.2 in conference play, is tops among all America East rookies.
McCollum Steps Up: Senior Jairus McCollum turned in his best effort of the season against UNH. He scored 10 second-half points, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and added two blocks. It was his second double figure scoring effort this season.
Long Distance Dedication: Stony Brook was 10-for-20 from three-point range against UNH, its best shooting performance of the season. It was the first time that the Seawolves have hit 10 or more 3's in a game since December 2, 2002 when SB hit 13 treys against Rhode Island College.
Orfini From Long Range: Mike Orfini has given the Seawolves offense a lift in the last two games. Orfini shot 5-for-9 from long distance last week. Entering last week's action, Orfini had been 2-for-13 for the season. Last year, Orfini hit only eight three-pointers all season long.
