Stony Brook Volleyball Outlasts Maine 3-2

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University volleyball team outlasted Maine 3-2 (21-30, 40-38, 26-30, 30-18, 15-10). Three Seawolves finished with double-digit kills as Stony Brook improves to 8-12 and 2-3 in conference. The loss drops Maine to 6-10 overall and 3-2 in the America East.

After dropping the opening game 30-21, the Seawolves responded winning a marathon Game 2 40-38. The teams traded leads until the Black Bears were able to secure a four-point lead at 25-21. Stony Brook would battle back to even the game at 28 all. The teams would continue to exchange leads until the Seawolves were able to close the match with an Amy Oleksiej kill and a Noelle Bay ace.

Maine out-hit the Seawolves .295 to .123 in Game 3 to take the game 30-26. Down 2-1, SB came back to hit .294 in the fourth game and closed out Game 4 30-18 behind back-to-back service aces from Sarah Votruba.

In the fifth game, the Seawolves jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back as Morgan Sweany closed out the match with a kill, giving Stony Brook the 15-10 decision.

Sweany paced the Seawolves attack with a game-high 19 kills and a team-high 23 digs. Bay added 13 kills and Oleksiej contributed 12 kills for the victory. Claire Lindner dug a team-high 23 and Kate Ruskowski ended the match with 52 assists.

Leah Guidinger led the Black Bears with 17 kills, Amy Lawson chipped in 15, Shannan Fotter added 14 and Lindsay Allman totaled 13 kills. Libero Jodi Connacher dug a match-high 37 balls in the loss.

The Seawolves return to action on Friday, October 21 when they host New Hampshire at 7:00 PM.
