Women's Tennis Falls Short in Spring Opener

The Stony Brook women's tennis team was downed 6-1 by UMBC in the Seawolves spring season opener held in West Point, N.Y., on Saturday. The team dropped to 3-1 for the 2004-05 season and will take on Army tomorrow morning.

The Seawolves dropped the doubles point to open the match, dropping two of three matches. Anne Cathrine Valle and Sandy Wijeratne teamed to win at the No. 1 spot, but the Retrievers won the final two matches to take the point.

Rachel Kimelman was the sole winner in the singles matches, winning 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5, but the Seawolves were swept in straight sets in all five other singles matches for the 6-1 final.
