The Stony Brook softball team opened its 2005 season with a pair of one-run losses at the Seahawk Classic on Friday afternoon. In the opener, East Carolina earned a 6-5 win, while in the nightcap the Seawolves fell to Longwood, 3-2.
In Game 1, the Seawolves took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but were unable to hold on as ECU rallied for four runs in the inning to earn the win.
Kristen Brust went 2-for-2 with a home run and a pair of RBIs. Angela Andrews (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs while striking out six over seven innings of work.
Trailing 3-2 with two outs in the seventh inning of Game 2, the Seawolves loaded the bases, but Marissa Servello grounded out to the pitcher to end the threat.
Jane Stein, who was credited with a pair of assists after throwing out two runners at the plate, went 3-for-3 and scored both runs, while Margaret Blair went 1-for-2 with an RBI single. Sarah Hoffman (0-1) took the loss.
The Seawolves are back in action at the Seahawk Classic when they take on Appalachian State at 10:00 a.m. and Coppin State at 12:00 p.m.
