Women's Lacrosse Defeats C.W. Post in Home Opener

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Amy Taylor and Jill Gridley scored three goals each to lead Stony Brook in a 13-9 victory over C.W. Post on Sunday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves earn their first win of the season as C.W. Post falls to 0-1.

C.W. Post's Masina Longo opened up scoring five minutes into the game off an assist from Jenna Miller. The Seawolves answered with three straight goals from Taylor, Carlee Buck and Katie Savino to take a 3-1 lead at the 18:38 mark. Marrisa Trachtenberg netted her first goal of the season sandwiched in between two Pioneer goals and the Seawolves led 5-3 at the break.

Stony Brook came out on fire in the second half, scoring four straight goals to extend the lead to 9-3. C.W. Post scored three of the next four goals to cut the SB lead to 10-6, but the Seawolves responded with scores from Kristen Dupuis and Gridley to make it 12-6 with 17:34 to play.

The Pioneers scored three of the final four goals of the contest to pull within 13-9, but that would be as close as they would get as Stony Brook pulled out the win.

Taylor finished with a game high five points on three goals and two assists. Gridley added four points on three goals and an assist. Buck and Dupuis each finished with three points. Jen Sandtorv (1-0) earned the win in the net, turning away six Pioneer shots.

Fabian and Elaine Williams netted three goals a piece for C.W. Post. Lauren Scipione (0-1) turned away ten SB shots and picked up eight ground balls in the loss.

Stony Brook is back in action on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. matchup with Fairfield.
