The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team hits the road for the first time in 2005 when they take on nationally-ranked UMass on Saturday. Stony Brook is 2-0 for the first time since 1997 and will face the No. 13 Minutemen for the sixth time in the program's history. Face-off is 12 p.m.
Last Time Out: Stony Brook registered its second straight win with a 14-2 triumph over Wagner.
Versus UMass: UMass owns a 5-0 series edge.
Getting Off To A Good Start: Stony Brook has won its first two games of the season for the first time since 1997. A win on Tuesday night would push the record to 3-0 and give SB its first 3-0 start since 1989. The Seawolves have never posted a 3-0 mark since joining the Division I ranks.
Versus Ranked Opponents: Masschusetts represents the first ranked opponent that Stony Brook will face this season. Stony Brook is 2-43 versus ranked opponents since 1990. Its last win over a ranked opponent came against No. 16 UMBC on April 28, 2001.
The Shores Of Tripodi: Freshman Bo Tripodi is off to a good start to his first season with the Seawolves. In two games, he has totaled nine points (7g, 2a) and is tied for the team lead in scoring. His efforts earned him America East Rookie of the Week recognition.
Lending A Hand:Adam Marksberry has also been a main cog in the Stony Brook attack. He is currently tied with Tripodi for the team lead in points and already has more assists (6) this year than he did all of last season.
Man In The Midfield: Sophomore Larry Cerasi is quickly emerging as a star in the Stony Brook midfield. After a seven goal season in 2004, Cerasi has totaled four goals and two assists in 2005 and ranks third on the team in scoring. Last year, Cerasi went the entire year without a multiple-goal game and he already has two to his credit in 2005.
Canadian Import: Midfielder Rhys Duch, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, scored his first collegiate goal and set up two others in Stony Brook's win over Wagner.
Home Sweet Home: The Seawolves have done a great job of making LaValle Stadium a tough place for opponents to play. Since a 10-3 loss to UMass one year ago, the Seawolves have reeled off 11 straight wins at home.
News And Notes: Eleven Seawolves scored in the win over Wagner . . . Seawolves travel to UMass this Saturday for their first road game of the season . . . Sean Chamberlain scored six goals in eight games last year. He has four in the first two games of 2005 . . . the Seawolves have never defeated a team ranked higher than 16th in the nation.
