Amy Taylor racked up seven points on five goals and two assists to lead the Seawolves in a 19-17 win over Fairfield on Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. With the win Stony Brook improves to 2-0, while the Stags drop to 1-2.
Stony Brook struck first, just 12 seconds into the game, as Danielle Werner took the draw control to the cage. Fairfield answered back with a goal from Beth Loffredo, two minutes later. Amy Taylor notched her first tally of the game at 28:09 to put the Seawolves ahead 2-1.
Fairfield scored five unanswered goals until 17:06 when Katie Savino scored off a pass from Jill Gridley. The Stags would respond with a goal from Loffredo to extend their lead to 6-2. Diana Caroleo notched a goal on a pass from Taylor at 15:56 to help the Seawolves trim the Fairfield lead to three until a goal from Gina Wolynski four minutes later.
A Taylor tally at 10:22 sparked a three goal run for the Seawolves that would give Katelin Billups her first two collegiate goals on back-to-back posessions. The teams went goal-for-goal until the break and Stony Brook headed into the second half down one, 11-10, to the Stags.
Stephanie DeGennaro opened up the second stanza for the Seawolves, as the teams traded goals until a 4-0 Stony Brook run on two goals from Carlee Buck, and one a piece from Taylor and Jill Gridley, giving SB the 17-14 advantage.
Taylor and DeGennaro scored two goals in the middle of three Fairfield goals to secure the 19-17 win.
Goalkeeper Gina DeNezzo turned away six Fairfield shots in the first half, while Jen Sandtorv walked away with the win, turning away seven of the Stags attempts in the second stanza.
Buck finished the game with four points on three goals and an assist. Gridley finished with two goals and an assist for three points.
For the Stags, goalkeeper Kristin Genovese turned away seven SB shots in the effort. Beth Loffredo finished with four goals to lead the Stags in scoring.
Stony Brook is back in action Saturday, March 12 at Manhattan.
