Softball Competes at Day 2 of Charleston Southern Tournament

Charleston, S.C. - The Stony Brook softball team went 1-2 on Day 2 of the Charleston Southern Tournament on Saturday. The Seawolves dropped their first two games of the afternoon, with a 10-2 loss to East Tennessee State and a 1-0 loss to Georgia State, before topping host Charleston Southern 5-1 in the final game of the day.

In the nightcap, the Seawovles took control early, striking three times in the top of the first inning. With one out and a runner on first, Kristen Brust smacked a two-run home run to give SB the 2-0 lead. Hayley Durham followed with a solo shot to make it 3-0.

CSU got a run back in the third on a solo homer, but the Seawolves sealed the win as Durham struck for her second home run of the game, a two-run shot, in the fifth.

Angela Andrews earned the victory, scattering eight hits while allowing one run and striking out five over seven innings of work.

In the first game of the day, the Seawolves picked up a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Suzanne Turek, but that was all the could manage, while East Tennesse State jumped all over Andrews for 10 runs on 17 hits to earn the win.

In Game 2, Georgia State scored the only run of the game on an RBI ground out in the eighth inning to earn a 1-0 victory.

Sarah Hoffman took the loss after allowing one run while scattering seven hits over eight innings.
