Women's Lacrosse Upends LIU 19-15

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Carlee Buck scored her 100th career point and broke the Stony Brook record for single season points with nine points on three goals and six assists as the Seawolves held off LIU 19-15 on Tuesday evening at LaValle Stadium. With the win, Stony Brook improves to 8-5, 2-2 while the Blackbirds fall to 4-8.

LIU scored first but the Seawolves responded with eight straight including a pair of goals from Jill Gridley, a pair from Amy Taylor and and Brooke Souder's first collegiate goal. LIU snuck in three more in between goals from Gridley and Marrisa Trachtenberg as the Seawolves headed into the break with the 11-4 advantage.

The Blackbirds came out with three straight tallies until Buck and Alexa Milano netted two for the Seawolves. LIU responded with four of their own to cut the SB lead to 13-11. Buck and Diana Caroleo put the Seawolves back up 15-11. The teams traded goals until Amy Rizzo brought the Blackbirds within three, making it 16-13 heading into the final 10 minutes. Taylor and Gridley answered with back-to-back SB goals to put the game out of reach and holding out for the 19-15 win.

Buck led the Seawolves with her nine points for a new SB single season record of 61. Gridley and Taylor chipped in with five points a piece. Gina DeNezzo stopped 14 Blackbird shots in the win.

The Blackbirds were led by Amy Rizzo's seven points on six goals and one assist. LIU keeper Patricia Parker made seven saves.

The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday for Senior Day as they take on Boston University at 4:00 p.m.
