Game 1
Game 2
Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The Stony Brook softball team dropped a double header to Marist, falling 3-1 in 10 innings in Game 1 and 1-0 in Game 2. The Seawolves have now lost eight straight to drop to 14-26 on the season, while the Red Foxes improved to 18-16.
In the opener, the Red Foxes broke a scoreless tie with a three-run, two-out rally in the top of the tenth inning. Laurissa Riley drew a two-out walk and moved to third on a single by Chrystine McHugh, who moved to second on the throw. Christine Jakobsen followed with a two-run single and advanced to second on the throw home. Katie Eskin hit a fly ball to short centerfield, but shortstop Laura Bradford couldn't come up with it, and Jackobson scored on the play to make it 3-0.
The Seawolves threatened in their half of the inning as Colleen McCarthy led off with a double to right center field. Margaret Blair came on to run for McCarthy, and moved to third and scored on back-to-back groundouts. That was the only run SB could manage as Rigos got Jane Stein to ground out to short to end the game.
Sarah Hoffman (8-9) took the loss, surrendering three runs, two earned, on four hits and a walk. Rigos (14-10) earned the victory after allowing one run on six hits while striking out 12 and walking none over 10 innings of work.
Hayley Durham went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles to lead SB at the plate.
In the nightcap, Marist got on the board in the top of the fifth when Riley doubled and scored on a single by McHugh to take a 1-0 lead.
Starter Kristen Merlino (4-5) made that lead stand up, scattering seven hits over 6.2 innings of work to earn the victory. Rigos came on with two on and two out in the bottom of the seventh and struck out Blair to end the game.
Angela Andrews (5-16) took the loss after allowing one run on 10 hits while striking out three and walking none over seven innings.
Ashley Westphal had a pair of hits in the contest to lead the Seawolves at the plate.
The Seawolves are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Sacred Heart for a double header beginning at 3:00 p.m.
