Three Seawolves Honored by America East in Softball

May 11, 2005

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook senior first baseman Kristen Brust was named to the America East first team for the fourth time in her career, the conference announced after a vote of the league's head coaches at the America East Softball Banquet on Wednesday night. Hayley Durham was named to the first team for the second straight year, while Jane Stein earned second team accolades.

Brust, the first four-time America East first team selection in school history in any sport, earns first team honors after once again ranking among league leaders in batting (.342), hits (55), runs (30), home runs (13), doubles (12), RBI (37), total bases (108), on base percentage (.433) and slugging (.671). A two-time All-Northeast Region selection, Brust will round out her career as Stony Brook's all-time leader in nearly every offensive category, including hits, doubles, home runs, runs and RBI.

Durham, who earned first team honors a year ago, earns her second first team honor at third base as an at large selection. This season, Durham leads the league in home runs, setting the Stony Brook single-season record with 17 homers so far this season, including three grand slams. She also ranks tied for the conference lead in RBI (47), second in total bases (101) and third in slugging (.627).

Stein earns her second straight all-conference nod after another solid season at the plate and in the outfield for the Seawolves. Stein currently ranks among the league leaders in hits (47) and runs scored (28) while posting a .952 fielding percentage in centerfield. She will finish her career among Stony Brook's all-time leaders in hits, runs, singles, doubles, home runs, RBI and total bases and single-season leaders in hits, runs, singles, home runs, RBI and total bases.

The fourth-seeded Seawolves open up play on Thursday when they take on top-seeded Albany at noon at University Field.
