Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight In 3-0 Sweep Of Marist

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Stony Brook volleyball team rolled to their fifth straight win with a 3-0 (30-28, 30-22, 30-22) win over Marist. With the win the Seawolves improve to 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in the Marist Invitational. The Red Foxes fall to 1-8 on the season following the loss.

Stony Brook came out of the gates strong in Game 1, building an 11-7 lead. Marist would come back to take the lead at 20-16 before the Seawolves battled back off of a Morgan Sweany tip and a Red Fox error to even the match at 22-22. Down 24-25, SB ripped four consecutive points capped off with a Holly Votruba kill to put them up 28-25. Marist would call a timeout before a 3-0 run that evened the game at 28-28. Following a Marist error, Claire Lindner served out the game as the Seawolves took Game 1 30-28.

With Game 2 tied at 3-3, the Seawolves utilized a balanced attack, including two kills from Morgan Sweany and Voda, giving Stony Brook a 10-3 advantage. Marist would get no closer than five points as SB claimed Game 2 30-22.

In the final game of the match, the Seawolves built a nine-point lead at 15-6. Marist fought back, cutting the lead to as little as three at 23-20 forcing SB into a timeout. Following the timeout, the Seawolves went on a 5-0 run and closed out the match 30-22 on a Voda kill.

Sweany led all players with 19 kills on the match and Voda and Sarah Votruba each contributed 11. Sweany has hit for double-digit kills in 10 consecutive matches dating back to last season. Sarah Votruba added 12 digs for the double-double and Gulce Nazli Dikecligil totaled 10 digs for SB.

The Seawolves will play their final match of the weekend when they take on Dartmouth at 2:00 p.m. in the last match of the Marist Invitational.
