Mitchell Beauford tied a career-high with 22 points, including the go-ahead lay-up with :33 left in the contest to lead the Stony Brook University men's basketball team past Dartmouth College, 51-48, in non-conference action this evening at Leede Arena in Hanover, N.H.

With the win, the Seawolves improve to 3-10 on the year while Dartmouth falls to 2-11 on the season.

"I am real proud of our guys. Any time you get a win on the road it's a satisfying feeling," said head coach Steve Pikiell. "I was real excited about Mike Popoko's career-best 13 rebounds because we needed all of them. We made some big plays down the stretch and used some Stony Brook Seawolf toughness."

With the score tied at 45, Beauford, who netted 14 of his 22 points in the first half, drove down the left hand side of the court and split two defenders for the go-ahead bucket with 33 ticks on the clock. On the next possession, Bobby Santiago came up with a huge steal to give the Seawolves the ball. After Mike Popoko was fouled, he hit a pair of free throws and later Hendrik Feist's two free throws sealed the victory.

Stony Brook held of a hungry Dartmouth team that rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit that took their first lead of the game at the 1:58 mark off a three-pointer by Leon Pattman to put the home team up, 45-44.

The Seawolves jumped out to a 29-16 lead, dominating the Big Green in the first half. Stony Brook shot 42% from the field and the Seawolf defense shut down Dartmouth, holding them to just five field goals on 23% shooting.

Stony Brook finished the game with a slight 38-37 rebounding advantage, including a 14-6 edge on the offensive glass. The Seawolves committed just nine turnovers in the contest compared to 18 by the Big Green.

Popoko snagged a career-best 13 rebounds, including five offensive boards, to go along with six points and three steals. Feist scored all nine of his points in the second stanza.

Pattman led the way for Dartmouth, netting 11 points and grabbing five boards, while Calvin Arnold snagged eight boards and swatted seven shots.

Stony Brook returns to action when they host America East Conference foe New Hampshire on January 14 in the Indoor Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast on Cablevision (Ch. 18 or 60) locally and NESN on Saturday.
