Stony Brook Hosts Colgate In First Contest of the New Year

The Seawolves host just their third game of the season through 10 games in the 2005-2006 campaign.The Seawolves enter the game still looking for their first win of the year while Colgate is 6-7.

Tonight marks the first time these two teams played against each other.

Ringing In the New Year

Since the turn of the millenium, the Seawolves are 0-5 in their first game played in the new year. Last year, Stony Brook fell to Maine in the first game in 2005, while in 2004 the Seawolves were upended by Northeastern.

It's Good To Be Back

In just his third game this season, Mitchell Beauford started his second contest vs. Wagner and poured in 13 points while grabbing six boards and dishing five assists. Beauford also picked up the starting nod against UConn and netted a team-high 14 points at the Hartford Civic Center. He also added two rebounds and two assists along with a steal.

Career Night For Tre

Tre Cunningham established his career-high for points against Wagner, when he netted a career-best 14 points. Cunningham was 4-5 from the field and 5-6 from the foul line on the night, including a thunderous breakaway dunk in the second half.

Showing Improvements at the Line

The Seawolves, who are just shooting 48 percent from the foul line on the season, went 12-17 (70.6%) against Wagner. Mitchell Beauford went 5-8 and Cunningham hit 5-6 to lead Stony Brook.

Trouble on the Glass

The Seawolvs have been dominated on the boards the last two contests, being outrebounded 109-66 and 43-17 on the offensive glass.

No Easy Opponents

• The Seawolves have the 16th toughest schedule in the nation. • Stony Brook has played two teams in the top five in the nation, and has played many other strong teams. Of the opponents the Seawolves have played, they have a combined 62-34 (64.5%) record so far this season.

And Then There Were Eight

Stony Brook is one of eight teams that remain winless in the nation. Stetson, UC Riverside, Alcorn St., Morgan St., Coppin St., North Carolina A&T, and Missouri Valley St. and the Seawolves have yet to notch a win so far this seasaon.
