Beauford's Career Day Helps Stony Brook Defeat UMBC

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) - Redshirt sophomore Mitchell Beauford scored a career-high 24 points and Stony Brook snapped a five-game losing streak with a 75-65 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday.

Tre Cunningham had 14 points for the Seawolves (4-15, 2-7 America East), while Antwan Hardy added 12 and Solomon Bamiro and Bobby Santiago each had 11.

Chris Pugh had 16 points for the Retrievers (7-12, 3-5), while Brian Hodges added 14 and Jay Green 11. Tom Young four points and 10 rebounds for UMBC.

Hardy had five points in a 17-5 run that gave Stony Brook a 55-44 lead. Bamiro's dunk with 12:02 to go capped the run.

UMBC got as close as 57-52 on Mike Housman's jumper with 6:38 to go.

Stony Brook opened the game with an 11-4 run that was capped by a 3 by Cunningham with 16:37 left in the half. Beaford tied the game at 34 on a layup with 1 second to go in the first half.
