The 2006-07 campaign begins Friday evening for the Stony Brook Men's Basketball program as they officially begin practice at 7:00 p.m. Head coach Steve Pikiell embarks on his second season at the helm of the Seawolves who welcome nine newcomers to the program.
"I am really excited about our team and to finally get started this season," said Pikiell. "We have improved our athleticism and depth as we look to play fast pace, exciting basketball. We are a much different team this year with nine new faces. They have worked hard in the offseason and our team is going to be exciting for fans to watch this year."
One of the newcomers, Ricky Lucas who transferred from George Washington University and sat out last season, will make an immediate impact on the floor for Pikiell. Lucas, a 6-4 shooting guard, was named America East Player to Watch by CBS Sportsline in its America East Conference Preseason Preview.
The men's basketball team's first game of 2006 will take place on November 10 when the Seawolves travel to take on Colgate.
