Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Oscar Leis, Michael Palacio and Pete Halkidis each scored a goal as the Seawolves used a solid team effort to beat Maine, 3-0, Wednesday at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. With the win, Stony Brook is 6-11-0, 3-4-0 in America East play while Maine is 0-16-0, 0-7-0 in conference play. With Hartford's loss to Boston University on Wednesday, Stony Brook now sits in sixth place and can earn a berth in the conference tournament with a win over New Hampshire on Saturday.

The Seawolves offensive pressure was relentless early on. In the 14th minute, Adam Ciklic sent a cross into the box that Leis perfectly headed home for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Leis' fourth while Ciklic added his second assist on the season.

Just before halftime, defenseman Collin Geoghegan sent a cross in that Maine goalkeeper Ben Piotrowski attempted to punch out but missed. Palacio capitalized and blasted the ball home for a commanding 2-0 advantage. Halkidis scored his goal in the 60th minute for the Seawolves.

Goalkeeper Rich Skoblicki had to make just one save as he picked up his fourth win and fourth shutout this season. In seven games, Skoblicki has allowed only three goals. Brian Tepfer came in and preserved the shutout for Stony Brook.

The last regular season game is on Saturday, October 21, 2006 against New Hampshire. The game is also Senior Night. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
