Box Score

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Ricky Lucas scored 22 points and Mitchell Beauford added 21 as Stony Brook upset Penn State 59-51 on Friday in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

With Stony Brook (2-1) in the bonus late, Lucas broke a 47-all tie with two free throws with just over two minutes left. Beauford added two more free throws the next trip down the floor, later icing the game with an uncontested driving layup with just over a minute remaining that put the game out of reach at 55-49.

The Seawolves had a 30-27 halftime lead behind Lucas' red-hot shooting. The George Washington transfer had 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting in the first half.

The Nittany Lions (2-1) again played without first team All-Big Ten forward Geary Claxton, who suffered a broken right hand in the preseason and will miss at least three more games before returning.

Stony Brook prevented Penn State leading scorer Jamelle Cornley from getting his third straight double-double, holding the sophomore to nine points.

Danny Morrissey was the only Nittany Lion in double figures, with 12 points on 4-of-13 shooting.

The Seawolves got seven points and seven rebounds from Eddie Castellanos.
