NEW YORK (AP) -Mitchell Beauford scored six of the first eight points in the second half to help Stony Brook to a 54-41 victory over Columbia on Saturday that snapped the Lions' four-game winning streak.
Stony Brook (3-2) held a 27-24 advantage at halftime, and Beauford made the first two baskets after intermission to push the lead to 31-24. After two free throws by Columbia's Ben Nwachukwu, Beauford converted a steal into a layup to put restore the seven-point lead.
Columbia (4-2) got as close as six points three times in the second half but Eddie Castellanos' jumper with 3:07 to go started a 7-0 run that finished the game.
Beauford scored a game-high 18 points, 14 in the second half, and Ricky Lucas added 12 for the Seawolves.
Freshman guards Niko Scott with 11 points and Patrick Foley, with 10, led the Lions.
