The Stony Brook baseball team exploded for 14 hits, but fell to the University of New Orleans 12-5 on Friday afternoon. The loss drops the Seawolves to 0-7 on the season and the Privateers improve to 8-8.
Stony Brook got on the board in the top of the first, when Robert Leonard ripped a two-run shot to give the Seawolves the 2-0 advantage. They would increase their lead to 3-0 in the second, when Stony Brook tacked on an unearned run.
New Orleans strung together five hits in the bottom of the second and scored five runs, capped by a Mike Epping three-run homerun. The Privateers pulled away as they added three runs in the fourth and three in the eighth.
Kris Bakey (0-2) picked up the loss for Stony Brook, allowing nine hits and seven runs in 3.0 innings of work. Andres Perez went 3-for-4 at the plate and Chris Sipp scored two runs and went 2-for-3 on the afternoon. Leonard added the two-run shot and Chris DiBiaso drove in two runs for Stony Brook.
Ryan O'Shea (2-0) picked up the win for the home team, lasting 5.0 innings and allowing only one run and striking out two. Epping fueled the UNO offense, driving in three and scoring two.
The Stony Brook baseball team returns to action on Saturday, when they square off in game two against New Orleans. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
